Purpose of creation

By Anjana Timalsina, Kathmandu

Once, a man created a beautiful Pencil. The Pencil was happy to be beautiful and it used to look in the mirror everyday. One day the man decided to tell it about the purpose of its creation. He told the Pencil that it had been created to write beautiful things and share knowledge. The Pencil was happy and excited to know about its purpose.

One day a carpenter took the Pencil with him. He used it to mark on the rough surface of wood. The Pencil hurt to write on a rough surface. It ran away from there. It met a writer on the way. It decided to be good friends with the writer so that it could stay in writer’s pocket happily and comfortably. The writer also felt good to get a pencil as a friend and he accepted its request.

The Pencil used to think that the writer will keep it in that the writer will keep it in a safe place and use it on only smooth surfaces so it would not be hurt. When the writer started writing, he used the Pencil continuously and sharpened it time and again with a sharp blade. The Pencil got hurt and its beauty was lost. It became shorter day by day. The Pencil got frustrated and decided to run away from there once again.

On the way, it met its old friend Eraser. The sad Pencil told its whole story to the Eraser. After listening to the story, the Eraser told the Pencil, “In this world, everything has its own purpose to be created. We shouldn’t stop doing our work even if we face difficulties. What matters and the qualities inside you is not in your outer appearance. Whenever you make mistake, you’ll find me to correct it, I promise.” The Pencil was happy with the worlds of the Eraser and promised not to stop doing its work even it was used on rough surfaces and sharpened time and again. It saw that the Eraser was also getting smaller too because of erasing mistakes and it realised the purpose of creation.
